The Benefits of being a Caveman –Coach Kat

All this nutrition chatter has been amazing in the New Year.  Everyone’s excited to keep on the healthy eating and training train and see amazing results!  Yet some of us are still on the fence, or feel like the ‘new year’ buzz is dwindling and they have escaped the ‘going paleo’ craze.  Nope, I’m here to kick you in the butt and throw you over that fence!  I have eaten paleo and done some research.  I truly believe in it.  Let’s look at the benefits.  According to eatdrinkpaleo.com individuals who eat paleo/primal see the following benefits.

-Increased and more stable energy levels
-Improved sleep
-Clearer skin and healthier looking hair
-Mental clarity
-Improved mood and attitude
-Improvements in those suffering depression or anxieties
-Less or no bloating, decreased gas
-Sustained weight loss
-Muscle growth; increased fitness
-Lowered risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer
-Higher immune function and a general feeling of well being
-Improved glucose tolerance; decreased insulin secretion and increased insulin sensitivity
-Improved lipid profiles
-Healthier gut flora
-Better absorption of nutrients from food
-Reduced allergies
-Paleo diet is anti-inflammatory, most people experience reduction of pain associated with inflammation
-Improvements in those with respiratory problems such as asthma

I challenge you find an athlete at Albany CrossFit who has eaten paleo for 30 days or more who can’t check off at least five of these true results; won’t happen.  Speaking from personal experience, I can pick out 12 of those benefits that I have experienced.  So for those of you still on the paleo fence; jump the damn fence and give it a try.  Talk to a coach or an athlete who has ‘gone paleo’ for a little extra push if needed.
