When I met Katie this past summer at CrossFit Clifton Park, she was ready to change. She quickly became part of the noon crew hitting classes five days a week. It was more than just working out that got her where she is today.
Her squat was severely limited, she could not get below parallel. Katie attacked this challenge with determination, she would not let it stop her. In the gym a half an hour early to work on her squat therapy and mobility. From all the hard work, her flexibility allowed her to start moving some serious weight.
She was strong, and now she is really strong! Katie consistently sets PRs with her squats and cleans. Strength gains that she has used in her new hobby, Strongman. She has been a regular at the classes for a couple of months now and recently competed in our first Strongman competition.
A valuable part of the community and always ready to help new athletes feel a little more comfortable. Always willing to help, she moved moved equipment all day at Fall Face-Off, or often seen at events taking photos. Quick to swap recipes with other CrossFitters, seeing others improve is just as important.
Watching Katie embrace this community and lifestyle has been one of the most inspiring things I have seen in CrossFit. Following a Paleo diet and taking an active interest in her recovery is really making the difference. She is in the 90 Day Challenge to win and I think she has a real shot at it. I expect nothing but more successes and milestones from her in the future. I truly am proud to call her a friend.
Congratulations Katie, as our December 2011 CrossFit Clifton Park Member of the Month!
