Training Day

The other day, I came across a picture of another CrossFit gym wall with the “Box Rules” painted on it. Among some awesomeness like “Leave your ego at the door!”, “Loud music only”, and “Support other athletes!” was a rule that made me tilt my head for a second and go, “Huh?”

Don’t Work Out! Train!

Then the grenade went off and BOOM! I see what they did there. I know I’m a little slow, but I don’t think every athlete who comes in to train with us at ACF or CCP fully grasps the profoundness of this rule either.

By definition, Training has specific goals of improving one's capability, capacity, and performance. Most people train FOR something. In our case, that may be The CrossFit Games or some other form of competition, roller derby, lacrosse or just being better than yesterday.

This difference matters! Training means developing habits; exercising regularly, moving well, eating well, hydrating, and resting and recuperating properly. Training means using instruction and practice to become proficient, not just hitting bigger numbers. It means much more than going through the motions and it starts with purpose and requires discipline and practice.

So, set your SMART goals and set some short-term goals and tasks to complete to make your big goals happen. Get training!
