James McDermott CrossFit Gym Coach In Albany Near Me

James McDermott earned his BS degree in kinesiology fitness development from SUNY Cortland. As a requirement for earning his degree, James interned at Albany CrossFit, eventually becoming a full-time coach, and in the years after was promoted to the gym’s head coaching position. While coaching at Albany CrossFit, he has prepared athletes to compete in the CrossFit North East Regionals, earned the Certified Crosst’It Trainer (CCFT/ Level 3) credential, and taught over 1,000 beginners in their first CrossFit WODs in the On Ramp program and CrossFit classes.

In 2014, he started the Albany CrossFit Barbell Club. Later he went on to earn his USA Weightlifting Level 2 credential. As an athlete, he regularly competes in weightlifting meets. As a coach, he’s led seminars, and has taken over 40 individual athletes to their first competitions. Through the barbell club, he’s produced a Masters National Champion, two Masters Pan American Champions, a Masters World Champion, and New York State Champions.

James has also co-authored multiple books including The Dark Orchestra with Jon North, American Weightlifting with Glenn Pendlay, and Flexible Eating with Jason Ackerman.
