Sean shows his appreciation for January’s Member of the Month at CrossFit Clifton Park:

5:45am might be early for some people. But for Carly, it’s not quite early enough. I am up before 5am every day Monday through Friday because if I’m not at the gym by 5:30am to let her in, I’m going to hear about it. With a laugh of course.

It’s really her way of saying that she wants to be able to invest in her performance. That’s worth it to me in my book. It’s athletes like that that makes my job as a coach so meaningful.

I’ve had the pleasure Coaching Carly since day 2 and 5 of On-Ramp many months ago. Just like most everyone in On-Ramp she was a ball of nerves. She was nervous and excited all at once for what is about to come. I could tell the way she pushed herself during the On-Ramp “mini-WODs” at the end that she was ready for the demands that any WOD would bring.

What I didn’t know was that she wasn’t only ready for the demands but she was hungry for any challenge. Carly was at a point in her life that she was ready to take on any obstacle that got in her way. Joining CrossFit gave her that opportunity. It gave her a chance to prove that no matter how hard anything can hit her she is going to hit back even harder. After the first WOD full of scaled movements she came up to me at the end and asked how she could improve. I showed her a few movements that would help her. The next morning as I pulled up to the gym, and there she was waiting. As soon as I unlocked the door and turned on the lights she was inside getting ready to work on what I showed her the day prior.

It’s been that way ever since. Other than her scheduled rest days, she is right on my heals as I open the doors to every morning. Day after day she shows up early and stays after tirelessly working on her “sucks.” The discipline that she has to improve her performance is infectious. Before I knew it there were a handful of others following suit. If Carly has any fears now, you would never know it. Her first taste of a CrossFit competition not knowing anyone outside the 5:45 at CCP, Carly never hesitated to answer the call for volunteers for the Fall Face-Off at ACF. No matter what event comes up Carly is all in. 90 Day Challenge? “Sign me up!” Tri-State competition? “I’m there!” MELT? “On my way!” Formal? “Who’s coming with me?” When I say she’s all in it just might be an understatement.

When she entered the 90 Day Challenge we sat down and came up with an extensive game plan. Going into Week 5, after weekly evaluations and tweaks she is dialed in and has her eyes fixed on the finish line. There is no stopping her. After signing up for the Tri-State she will not be taken by surprise. She is preparing herself by attending specialty classes outside her comfort zone. Carly has introduced herself to our community and not only does she thrive in it, she makes it better. She goes above and beyond day after day pushing herself and everyone else around her. Her positive attitude, competitive spirit, and discipline is motivation for all of us. On behalf of myself and all the coaches, we thank you for what you do. Keep up the great work.
