At Albany CrossFit, our mission is to inspire and empower individuals of all fitness levels to achieve their goals, build lasting connections, and improve their quality of life. We care deeply about our community, from the athletes we train to the ways we give back. By fostering a supportive environment and prioritizing health, happiness, and integrity, we aim to lead the way in fitness and wellness.
Albany CrossFit’s home, The Court Club, was established in 1978 as the Capital Region’s first racquetball club. In the 1980s, the Court Club became a pioneer in fitness by introducing Nautilus weight machines, making it the area’s first health club to offer circuit training.
As racquetball reached its peak in the 1970s and 80s, a new era of fitness emerged in the 2000s with CrossFit. In September 2007, Jason Ackerman, an employee at the Court Club, transformed one racquetball court into the region’s first CrossFit gym—Albany CrossFit was born.
In August 2014, Jason sold Albany CrossFit to Shye Evan, owner of the Court Club. Under Shye’s leadership, Albany CrossFit and the Court Club merged into one unified business. Today, Albany CrossFit stands as the heart of the facility, offering an unmatched variety of classes and fitness opportunities.
Since its founding in 2007, Albany CrossFit’s mission and values have remained the same: to inspire and serve athletes by fostering a welcoming community and delivering exceptional fitness experiences. The gym’s story is a testament to the passion and dedication of its members, coaches, and staff who have shaped it into what it is today.
