July 2011 – Jeff Gildersleeve (CCP)

CrossFit member of the month July 2011 Clifton Park

CrossFit Clifton Park’s First Member of the Month!

Everyone who is a CrossFit athlete works hard, but some athletes work harder than
others. It is this distinction that we consider as the qualifying criteria for the Member of
the Month. I am pleased to announce CrossFit Clifton Park’s first Member of the Month:
Jeff Gildersleeve.

Jeff came through our doors during our “open gym” trial period with a battered body, but
an open mind. After a career as a New York State Trooper, a lifetime of working out in
the traditional ways, and CrossFitting for years on his own, he was ready to learn. I don’t
know how many of us can say we would willingly put aside all that we had acquired in
order to assess the merits of a new way of thinking. Jeff did just that, and he has already
grown as an athlete because of it.

However, there are significant features that Jeff did not discard, his humility and
his compassion. Jeff is always assisting other athletes cleaning up post-WOD, and
has offered to mop our floors on countless occasions. He consistently roots for other
members, even though he might be mid-WOD and suffering. And once the clock has run
out, he is nothing but smiles, “Good stuff” typically crossing his lips.

Jeff is working hard from the inside out, never complaining, and always pushing his
limitations. We at CrossFit Clifton Park couldn’t ask for more. CrossFit is about “Forging
Elite Fitness”, but at its core, and for the majority of us, it is the forging–the moving
forward steadily–that matters. Jeff is the embodiment of just that, and his efforts deserve
to be honored. Congratulations.

Thank you, I am honored! Especially when I see the hard work and dedication put in by every coach and every athlete at CCP. It’s not the destination but the journey that makes our lives fun….thanks for helping my journey along!!!
