    I have not always been a very active person. Early in my life, I struggled with my weight and a multitude of health problems. After frequent illnesses and visits to doctors’ offices; I decided I needed to change the way I was living my life. I needed to take responsibility for my personal health & fitness. I began exercising, playing sports, cleaning up my diet and seeking greater knowledge on how I could not only help myself, but others as well.

    It soon became my mission in life to find an outlet to aid others in living healthier, happier lives. I have been involved in the fitness field for the past nine years training, competing and coaching. I attended and graduated from the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Cortland with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology: Fitness Development. Currently, I am a full time Coach here at Albany CrossFit where I have the privilege to help bring about positive change in the lives of others.

    The man is infamous. He is a motivation and inspiration to all. And, holy cow does he have a sick sense of humor! Jason was double his current size when he starting crossfitting in 2009. He is looking to pay back what CrossFit has given him, by giving back as a coach. He is extremely sharp, and his knowledge is growing faster than his waist is shrinking. We look forward to an even lighter, even better Coach Murph in the near future.

    Desire comes to Albany CrossFit with a competitive athletic background. She played and coached division 1 soccer at Marist college and competitive league soccer in Puerto Rico. She started at Albany CrossFit through the urging of her sister D. Bianca and has found a passion for not only the sport but the community as well.

    Desire is a CrossFit Level 2 Certified Coach.

  • Kat

    Kat has been a member of Albany CrossFit for well over 4 years. She is a former high school and college cross-country runner and volleyball player who was looking to fill the competitive void in her adult life; and found cross-fit. She has also played and coached roller derby in Albany for a few years. She teaches high school physical education and coaches’ cross-country and track and field here in the capital region.

    Kat currently coaches a few classes a week and will often be seen hitting WOD’s with the community here at Albany CrossFit. Feel free to seek out Kat with any questions!

    Pat came to Crossfit from a Martial Arts background with over 20 years of experience as a student and instructor. He played Rugby in college and for teams in New Jersey and Albany; and in a past life, he was a high school teacher. Pat works for the New York State United Teachers union as Assistant Manager of Member Benefits overseeing its coordinated communications efforts.

    He has been CrossFitting since November of 2008 and favors the longer Metcons with bodyweight movements.

    Dr. Bianca Treski Hughes is the spine coach at Albany Crossfit. She is always willing to chat with athletes on how to improve performance and avoid injury by addressing structure weaknesses. Dr. B graduated from the New York Chiropractic College in 2003 and is a Distinguished Fellow in the Chiropractic Biophysics Technique with a specialty in scoliosis correction. She played collegiate rugby and intramural softball in graduate school.

  • drbShye has been managing the Court Club since 2001. He is a certified Pilates instructor and has been teaching mat classes since 2003. He also teaches Body Pump and In-door cycling.

    Shye became a Level 2 CrossFit Trainer in January 2015 and offers personal training. In addition, he is a squash and racquetball instructor and offers introductory lessons to people who have an interest in learning these sports at the Court Club. Recently Shye became the owner of Albany CrossFit. You can find Shye and his basset hound Louie every day at the Court Club!

  • Mitch Kurtz is a New York State licensed, Nationally Certified Massage Therapist who has been practicing for over 20 years. His educational training has included the study of Anatomy & Physiology, Pathology, Shiatsu, Asian Medical Theory & Philosophy and Medical Massage. He graduated from the Swedish Institute of Massage Therapy and Allied Health Sciences in NYC in 1995. He earned a National certification in 2006. For over 14 years starting in the early 1980’s Mitch worked with physically and developmentally disabled individuals in a clinical setting (ARC +UCP).He was inspired to become an LMT after working closely with Physical Therapist and performing exercise therapy for cerebral palsy patients. Mitch believes that anyone regardless of the sport or activity that they are involved in can benefit from therapeutic body work. It can improve the performance of any athlete by relieving pain in muscles, joints, tendons and nerves by improving range of motion and joint flexibility. It also promotes tissue regeneration by increasing the flow of oxygenated blood and nutrients to blood starved, ischemic and contracted muscles and help break up adhesions (knots) – thus can hasten recovery. Massage can also reduce spasms and cramps and releases endorphins that work as the body’s natural painkillers. It also reduces inflammation and lowers the level of the stress hormone cortisol. Toxins are reduced, toxins which the body produces in abundance during arduous physical activity. Massage also enhances immunity by increasing the body’s white blood cell count. Massage can speed up the recovery process and get you back to the gym sooner than rest alone would allow. He has been a member of the Court Club for 2 years and works out 3-4 times per week doing cardio and weight training. While he’s not in the gym he enjoys boating, fishing, hunting, target shooting, hiking, swimming and ledge jumping (at Palenville Falls and Faun’s Leap).
