I’m Jason Ackerman, owner of Albany CrossFit and CrossFit Clifton Park with a special invitation for you: Try CrossFit. It might just change your life. I know it changed mine.
The most satisfying part of my job is seeing lives transformed. Our members are happier and healthier than ever before. When we started modestly over six years ago in cramped and shared space, I never dreamed we would come so far. We have grown to two locations and one of the most successful CrossFit affiliates in the United States.
What a long, strange trip it’s been for me! I’m a guy who grew up very un-athletic. But one day in high school my Earth Science teacher more or less “made” me join the wrestling team. Me!
I spent my first wrestling season getting my ass whooped. But I gradually improved, eventually won the section championship and even got into bodybuilding. By my last semester in high school, I was working in a local fitness club.
But I still wasn’t sure I wanted to make fitness a career. Like most nice Jewish boys, I thought I wanted to become a doctor… not a trainer. I majored in psychology in college. Little did I know how useful it would turn out to be!
After some more fitness jobs after college, working at nearly every gym in the Capital Region, I caught the CrossFit bug – big time.
After Jiu-Jitsu practice a friend introduced me to CrossFit and thought it would help with my own training.
I found myself watching countless of hours of videos. I studied as much as I could. I dove in as far as training myself. In time, I started using CrossFit with most of my one-on-one personal training clients.
But, you know what? Until that time, I still wasn’t sure I’d stick with fitness as a career.
But then it dawned on me: I can do this fitness stuff forever, the CrossFit Way.
I took the Level One Seminar in 2007 and opened my own CrossFit Affiiliate.
The rest, as they say, is history.
Our workouts are based on natural and functional movements. The workouts change every day. Every workout is coached and the coaches scale the workouts to accommodate different ability levels. We use uses barbells, kettlebells, pull up bars and many other body weight movements including squats, burpees, and pushups.
It’s also been my privilege to certify other coaches, organize CrossFit competitions, serve as a CrossFit judge, attend the CrossFit Games, and lead fund-raising campaigns that have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity.
At 35 years of age, I can honestly say I am in the best shape of my life. I am looking, feeling, and performing better than ever. I credit that to clean eating, giving 110% at every WOD, but most importantly to our community. Ever since switching our programming and hitting classes, I notice a tremendous difference. The magic truly is in the community… or in this case our family.
May we explain more about what makes us special? We offer a select number of free hour-long, one-one consultations and private training session, with no obligation or strings attached.
